Every month is a new beginning, a chance for change, a fresh new start. I am definitely way more productive and motivated at the beginning of a month than at the end. Seasons are the same way, you can change yourself with them, set resolutions, walk closer to your goals. December is the best month of the year not just because of the happiness and excitement in the air, but it is the start of a new month, season, and in four short, amazing weeks, the start of a new year. That the ultimate time to reinvent yourself. Set goals for the rest of the year and start the next one feeling great. I’m so excited for December, it like opening a new journal that you can fill with all kinds of adventures.
And of course another favorite of mine is the weather. I have some sort of Chihuahua syndrome where if the temperature drops below 26-27*C I freeze. So for this season I need to layer up and not look like a penguin. This Oxblood jacket from Oasis is perfection. I wore it with some black jeans and a t-shirt, and the jacket just made everything look so special. I feel this look woks for if you’re going somewhere casual like school or work, but it also fits a fancier night atmosphere. Again my favorite vampiresque color for this season, there is something so stunning about the dark reds again the grey backdrop of this season. Oh and its fake fur so no puppies had to die in the making, that’s always a good thing.
Fall is probably my favorite season. The weather finally cools down in California and the air starts to smell like Christmas. And not just the pumpkin spice smell that gets pumped into the air everywhere you go, I’m talking about the smell of the cool outside air that has the feelings of the happy holiday season and adventures that come with it. Because the weather never gets to snow in California, it’s a great time for fashion. You can still experiment with layering and prints but without the choice between looking like an eskimo or freezing your butt off. That beginning fall weather is what inspired my look. Its comfortable, has the perfect amount of layers that you wont be hot or cold, and it’s cute. The oxblood color is one of the reasons I love fall so much, I think it’s sexy and serious, but can be a lot of fun if used in the right way. The skirt, hat, boots, and bag are from Oasis, I recently discovered their store and am in love with their fall/winter outfit choices, lots and lots of stuff in my favorite fall color.
Ps. I thought it was hilarious how the dog kept looking all wide-eyed at the camera like, “Julia, there is someone in the bushes taking pictures of us O___O.”
This year I had the pleasure of being a part of LA fashion week. I’ve walked small runways before (the non-catwalk types) but this was way bigger than I had expected. I walked for two designers in the first show I did for Project Ethos, and then another at Style Fashion Week. It was super intimidating to walk in and see that huge runway, and then walk into style fashion week two days later and realize that the first one I walked was a baby in comparison. People say that LA fashion week is not a big deal, however I thought it was pretty intense. Both days were super exciting, the first was a brand new experience for me, and while I went to the second one more comfortable, I was taken by surprise about the size of the venue and amount of people.
So here’s the lesson I learned kiddies; do stuff that scares you. I know that last year, in all my awkwardness, I would not have been able to do something like this. Even this year, being there made me super awkward and uncomfortable, but once I got past all those fears, I had a lot of fun and met some really lovely people. Also for a person as nervous as I was, I think I killed on that runway. So anyways, do things that inspire and terrify you, put those fears aside, and you might be very pleased with the result.
So I thought why not do a Halloween inspired post on my blog while we are still in those Halloween weekend vibes. I’m a huge fan of the movie Leon: The Professional. It’s one of the only moves that makes me cry without fail. Even finding a quote from the movie to caption my photo with made me a little teary eyed. If you haven’t seen this movie yet I highly suggest you do, the writing is incredible, the acting is amazing the plot is fantastic, and Luc Besson ties it all together brilliantly. And above all those things baby Portman is in this movie, and what could be better than that.
I saw this wig at ALDO and immediately thought it would be perfect for a Mathilda costume. Although short (or black) hair doesn’t work that well with my face, I thought all together the grungy look was cute. I didn’t have a medium sized potted plant at my house, so I just took some pictures at a grocery store. That’s not weird right?
Anyways hope you guys had a fun, safe Halloween! And hope you’re all excited for the adventures the new month will bring. Lots new content on here for nablogwrimo, stick with me, it’ll be fun.
